“Your genes load the gun. Your lifestyle pulls the trigger.” – Mehment Oz
You may have the genes for an underactive thyroid, Hashimoto’s, or even other conditions or diseases. But for most of us, having the genetics doesn’t mean that we will have the disease.
Epigenetics is the science of how genes are influenced by lifestyle choices, diet, supplements, and environmental factors [1]. You can influence how your genes “express” themselves and influence your overall health. It’s like switching a light on or of – similarly, your lifestyle, diet, supplement and environment, can switch your genes on or of.
So while you may have the genes running in your family that puts you at risk for developing an underactive thyroid or Hashimoto’s, it is your actions and choices that activate these genes.
And just as your actions and choices about your lifestyle, diet, stress, sleep, and overall environment can activate these genes, so it can also deactivate these genes.
The decision is yours.
